Seamless Attenuating Technologies (SATECH) is a Washington-based manufacturer
specializing in the development and marketing of SmartCells®, a new generation
of cushioning technology. The SmartCells technology has broad application
in many markets where improving safety and reducing fatigue, stress, impact
shock, and vibration are critical factors. Applications include the home
market as well as the industrial work place for relieving fatigue and improving
productivity in standing workers; the senior care market for reducing fall
injuries; and the exercise/athletics market for reducing impact shock/stress
injuries.

Since the late 1980s, the SmartCells technology has
played a vital role in creating safer work or play surfaces. Original patent
protection for the SmartCells structure was sought for a wide variety of surfaces
such as helicopter landing pads and under play ground equipment to protect
children from fall injuries. In 1990, SATECH, Inc. was officially formed to
expand the application of the unique SmartCells structure/technology to athletic
and industrial applications.
During the 1990s the Company focused on safety surfaces for sports applications, which culminated in the creation of a SmartCells basketball court at the Puget Sound Christian College in Edmonds, Washington. The floor surface looked like a wood floor but in reality was a synthetic surface supported by the SmartCells structure. Through the leadership of then Seattle Sonics head coach Lenny Wilkens, five NBA teams practiced on the SmartCells surface and gave it solid approval as a basketball surface with the hope that the floor would reduce “hard surface” related injuries over time.
The SmartCells court at the Puget Sound Christian College, was not only unique as a basketball court but it and was known for environmental achievement through the incorporation of recycled tires and athletic shoes in its fabrication. The molding of the SmartCells rubber structure encapsulated the particles from the ground-up shoes and tires.
As SATECH developed its business plan, it became clear that industrial applications would provide a larger more important market for the Company. As a result, the Company focused its efforts on optimizing the SmartCells structure for relieving stress and fatigue in standing workers. This effort came to fruition in the year 2002 with the launch of the SmartCells Anti-fatigue Mat and Platform products, to create a new generation of cushioning technology.
